Physicians like Hippocrates and later Golenus are believed to have been the first practitioners of Physiotherapy, advocating massage, manual therapy techniques and hydrotherapy to treat people in 460 B.C. The first Physiotherapy research was published in the United States in March 1921.

Physiotherapy or Physical therapy ia a conservative science of the treatment and management after the clinical examination, assessment and diagnosis of the diseases for restoration of the men's muscles skeletal disorders, coralio - pulmonary disorders, sports injuries and Gynecological disorders with the help of physical means like radiation heat, cold, exercise, current, waves, manipulation and mobilization etc.

In ancient times it was used for health promotion exercises, Sauna (bath), massage, hydrotherapy and diet. For example in ancient India, China and Egypt. Bad joints mobility was cured stretching, massage and water therapy.

In ancient Surgeon sushruta, physical,breathing exercises as well as massage.

Physiotherapy sciences has since developed which means promotion, prevention, treatment / intervention and rehabilitation.

According to the Indian Association of Physiotherapists( IAP ), a Physiotherapist ia a trained and licensed medical professional with experiences in diagonosing physical abnormalities, restoring physical function and mobility, maintaining physical function and promoting physical activity and proper function.

A Physiotherapist helps take care of patients in all phases of healing from inicial diagnosis through the restorative and preventive stages of recovery, Physical Therapy may be short time or long time treatment, its depend upon diseases.

Some patients are referred to a Physiotherapist by Doctors such as Orthopaedic Surgeon, Neurologist and Physiatrist.
